We run Microsoft SQL Server 2008 on our servers, only Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008 is supported, earlier versions are not compatible.

From your Control Panel MSSQL Databases feature, you should be able to find the server IP address, port, username and password. To connect remotely, inside the 'Connect to Server' dialogue box (displayed on start up of Management Studio or from the menu File -> Connect Object Explorer...), you should ensure that:
Authentication is 'SQL Server Authentication'
Server name is ServerIP,ServerPort
Login and password should the username and password
