If you already have a domain registered externally and you want to use this with your Eco Web Hosting services there are two main options that you have in order to do so. The main decision to make is whether you want to manage your domain and hosting through the same company or keep them separated as they are now.
Full Transfer
A full transfer will entail the domain being moved across to Eco Web Hosting from your current registrar meaning all aspects of domain management will be passed to us, you will renew the domain, make nameserver changes and update contact details through ourselves.
There are two slightly different processes depending on the domain type you have both of which are covered below:
UK domains (.co.uk, .org.uk, .uk etc.)
UK domains have a 'push' transfer process, the initiation of the transfer is from the losing registrars end and the domain is pushed across to the new registrar. A UK domain has an IPSTAG, this setting defines the registrar who has the ability to manage the domain, to transfer a domain to Eco Web Hosting you will need to update this tag with the current registrar to
STACK (all in capitals) and this will then push the domain to us.
To check the tag on your domain you can use the following search page, Nominet are the governing body of all UK domains —
http://www.nominet.uk/whois/.
In order to complete the process and associate the domain to your account you will need to login at
https://www.ecowebhosting.co.uk/cp/home, add the domain in the search bar, select to order the transfer and then checkout to complete the process, there is no charge to fully transfer your UK domain.
Global Top Level Domains (.com, .net, etc.)
GTLD's have a 'pull' transfer process, the initiation of the transfer is from the gaining registrars end and once the transfer is authorised the domain is pulled across to the new registrar. Before the transfer is initiated you will need to ensure that you have unlocked the domain and have the auth/EPP code in order to authorise the transfer.
Once you have done this you will need to login to your account at
https://www.ecowebhosting.co.uk/cp/home, add the domain in the search bar, select to order the transfer and then checkout to complete the process, you will be prompted for the auth/EPP code in the basket. There will be a charge to complete the transfer (usually equal to one year's renewal for the domain type) but this will add a year to the existing expiry date once the transfer has completed.
When payment has been made an e-mail will be sent from our registry provider to the domain's admin contact, this will ask for confirmation of the transfer and will complete the authorisation stage.
Once the transfer has been authorised this will usually automatically complete in 5-7 days although this can be quicker if the losing registrar approve the transfer before that period is up.
Updating Nameservers
If you prefer to manage your domain with it's current registrar you can simply point the domain to our nameservers. With this method you will still manage renewals, nameserver changes etc. with the current registrar but the domain can still be used with your Eco Web Hosting services. To use this method get in touch with your registrar and you can update the nameservers, please note these changes will take 24-48 hours to fully propagate and take effect This will point all aspects of the domain to Eco Web Hosting, e.g. website, e-mail and any other services.
